Influenza PSA

If you haven’t gotten the shot for influenza, (Tamiflu here, I’m not sure if it’s named that everywhere?) get it. This shit sucks. I feel slightly human again, but based on past experience, I’m not counting on it to last much longer than it takes to write this post. Also, those humidifiers that are attached to your furnace? You need one of those too. Ours is old enough to fart dust, but it’s keeping the house from being totally dry. (I’ve still got water boiling on the stove though…a bit extra can’t hurt, right?)

P.S. influenza? Nothing like what I thought it was. I was under the impression that it was more of the throwing up/nausea stuff than this uber bad head ache where you have to hide all of your sharp objects to keep from driving them into your brain to relieve the pressure. And yeah, there’s nausea too, but it’s mostly like the worst cold ever met up with the worst sinus infection ever and made babies…..colicky ones……inside your brain.

P.P.S. My husband would like everyone to know that he managed to suffer through this stuff for 4 days with nothing more than the TLC of yours truly and Aleve. No whiney blog posts required. He’s such a stud. šŸ˜‰

  1. I used to think the flu was the vomiting kind of illness too. Wrong. It is called (here at least) gastro intestinal something or other. I am incredibly susceptible to gastro whatever, I had it twice in 6 months, I work in a nursing home and all I have to do to get it, is to be in the room with someone who had contact with someone who has it. It is bad, but the flu is worse.

You have my deepest sympathy. I know that doesn’t help, but anyway I hope you and the stud feel better soon. Positive thoughts are heading your way. šŸ˜Ž

  2. Three years ago, at Xmas, my father, mother and husband all came down with influenza (not all at same time – within a week or so). My husband was ALL OUT sick for about a month. I thought we might have to take him to hospital. People don’t realize that influenza is a serious respiratory infection – not a cold or tummy bug. Old people die of that shit. I would get my shot – though it creeps me out – but till my immune system is back in normal gear, I’m not allowed to be immunized.

  3. I get a flu shot every year without fail because I don’t ever want to get the flu again. I had it once years ago while in the UK and I don’t wish it on anyone. As soon as the kids are old enough they’ll get the vax too.
